Physical fitness is already known to be good for the body in old age. Now a new study shows that exercise may also be good for the mind in old age. Researchers studied a group of Canadian women older than 65. Results showed that participants who had regular aerobic activity had a 10% higher cognitive function score than their fellow participants who did not exercise. Lower blood pressure was also found to be a trait of the active women as well. Sedation is now a risk factor for stroke and dementia. The study is the first to show that better blood flow to the brain is equal to improved cognition.
