Phone Calls Help To Lose Weight

voicemail

New findings show that phone consultations might be just as effective as in person counseling when it comes to weight loss.

Research studied 376 obese adults. They were randomly assigned to 5 different methods of lifestyle counseling as well as a weight loss drug sibutramine. All 5 groups lost weight in differing degrees. Participants that had frequent phone calls with a dietician (up to 18 in a span of 6 months) were found to fare almost as well as participants who had frequent face to face meetings with dieticians. These 2 groups were also found to lose more weight than the groups who had fewer contact with a dietician.

Researchers believe that telephone contacts may help to lower costs for patients and may even cause prolonged adherence to losing weight as the burden of visiting the dietician is gone.
