A new study done by Japanese found that elderly who wake up more than twice a night to urinate have a greater threat of death.
As people age, they are more prone to urinate during sleep hours. This condition may be connected to many other health troubles like diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, sleep apnea, sleep disorders, and lower urinary tract problems.
In the study, 788 Northern Japanese people over age 70 were examined. After three years, the researchers found that on average, those who urinated more than twice a night were 2.7 times more probable to die than those who urinated once or less a night.
However, the exact reason for the higher mortality rates is unclear. Some have linked condition to heart disease, or higher risk of falls and hip fractures, or nocturia.
