The increased disabilities might imply that women tend to put on extra weight in their child-bearing and peri-menopasual years. This therefore transforms into loss of independence in their old age.
Not only are women more prone to obesity and arthritis, they are also more likely to experience vision problems, fractures, and bronchitis. Men were more apt to have stroke, diabetes, coronary heart disease, emphysema, congestive heart failure, and hearing problems.
