Atrial Fibrillation Connected To Alzheimer's

New research has shown that Atrial Fibrillation (AF), a heart rhythm disorder, is now linked with Alzheimer's disease. They found that patients with AF had a 44% higher chance of developing dementia (a general term for life-altering loss of memory and other cognitive abilities) compared to those without AF.

Patients under age 70 were 130% more likely to acquire Alzheimer's disease, a type of dementia. These younger patients with dementia were more apt to pass away than older patients with both ailments.

This study breaks new ground in showing that having AF puts patients at larger threat for developing Alzheimer's disease, particularly for younger patients.
