Guidelines For Sugar Intake
The American Heart Association (AHA) has put out exact guidelines on amount of sugar intake daily. Women should take in no more than 100 calories of added sugars per day and men should not consume more than 150 calories. Added sugars contribute to the obesity problem in America and are related with high blood pressure risks, high triglyceride levels, and heart disease and stroke.
Soft drinks contain around 130 calories, which already exceeds the daily limit for women. Soft drinks are the highest source of added sugar in America’s diet. The average intake of added sugars for an American is around 355 calories per day, which is three times the normal guidelines provided by AHA.
Sugars like ordinary table sugar and high-fructose corn syrup added to breads, sodas, and other processed foods, increase the calorie consumption and is a big factor in the rise in obesity in America. Therefore, experts advise Americans to follow AHA guidelines and consume less sugar.
