Prevent Hearing Loss With Folate

A new US study has found that men who consume more folate and folic acid can decrease their risk of developing hearing loss by 20%. In addition, antioxidants like vitamins C, vitamin E, and beta-carotene did not provide any benefits for hearing aid.

Around 50,000 male professionals were studied, and those over 60 who had high folate intake from either food or supplements were found to have less hearing problems. Folic acid, a type of Vitamin B, has been connected with preventing hearing loss in many other studies.

Folate can be found in green leafy vegetables, lentils, and chickpeas. Having folate deficiency in early pregnancy tends to increase risk of neural tube defects (NTD) in infants. As of 1998, public health measures have made all grain products to be fortified with folic acid, the synthetic bioavailable form of folate.
