I don't have any questions, I just wanted to thank you for bringing life back to me.

I was so sick and now I am feeling as good as I did twenty years ago! It has been a long battle: no energy, aches and pains going from one Dr. to the next. They told me it was anything from arthritis to depression; they had me on steroids for three years... All behind me now!

I just don't know how to thank you. I think it would be wonderful if you could just be everywhere with your caring heart. Information and the real reason behind all of the bad, sick days that so many of us have had.

Sincerely, Jessica...@telusplanet.net

Losing Weight Decrease Risk Of Osteoarthritis

Studies have found that overweight people who lose 5% of their weight have less chances of developing knee osteoarthritis (OA). OA affects more than 27 million Americans and is the most common joint disease that affects middle-aged to older people. OA is usually weakening and painful. Unfortunately, there is currently no cure and effective treatments are limited. OA contributes to damage of the joint cartilage and changes the structure of the joint, which can increase fluid accumulation, bony overgrowth and loosening and weakness of muscles and tendons. All these symptoms can make movement painful and slow.

Around 1,500 people 45 and older were followed for six years. They were divided according to weight change: people who lost 5% or more of their total body weight, those who stayed within 3% above or below their weight, and the rest who gained more than 5% of their weight. Obesity was found to be a huge risk factor for OA, because maintaining weight did not reduce OA risk.

Losing weight can be a hard task. Experts say it is easier to have a goal of losing a certain percentage of weight instead of aiming for an ideal number. For example, someone who wants to lose 5% and weighs 200 pounds only needs to lose 10 pounds.
