I don't have any questions, I just wanted to thank you for bringing life back to me.
I was so sick and now I am feeling as good as I did twenty years ago! It has been a long battle: no energy, aches and pains going from one
Dr. to the next. They told me it was anything from arthritis to depression; they had me on steroids for three years... All behind me now!
I just don't know how to thank you. I think it would be wonderful if you could just be everywhere with your caring heart. Information and the
real reason behind all of the bad, sick days that so many of us have had.
Sincerely, Jessica...@telusplanet.net

As the Swine flu is spreading around, and more H1N1 cases arise, U.S. researchers are understanding the patterns and trends of the disease, which may help in finding more effective treatments as the peaking months come. The latest study has counted 1,088 H1N1 cases in California that require hospitalization or resulted in death between April 23 and August 11 2009. They find that this swine flu disproportionately affects younger patients-median age being 27.
Among the patients hospitalized, 118 died-an 11% fatality rate. Even though infants under 2 months old had the highest hospitalization rate, the patients over 50 were the ones who had the highest death rate. Though the media have focused on the susceptibility of younger patients to infection, the elderly might have been dangerously overlooked. Older patients might not be more prone to infection in the first place due to residual immunity to the H1N1 virus from previous outbreaks. However, their risk of death is usually higher than younger patients because most have underlying conditions like heart disease, diabetes, emphysema, and lung problems.
This research suggests that chronic underlying conditions are a major risk factor for worsening H1N1 disease. 60% of the children and 72% of adults hospitalized for swine flu had certain conditions (high blood pressure, gastrointestinal disease, high cholesterol) that complicated the situation even more. Another harmful risk factor for H1N1 is obesity. The patients who have high BMI measurements not only suffer from other medical conditions related to weight, but they can also be put to more risk for suffering a more severe H1N1. Being obese can reduce lung function and increase sleep apnea, both of which can weaken the person's capacity to triumph the influenza-a respiratory infection.
