A new study shows that eating more fruits and vegetables can reduce the risk of developing non-Hodgkin lymphoma by around 30%. The antioxidant nutrients like vitamin C, alpha-carotene, and proanthocyanidins help to decrease the risk for cancer.
There are around 29 different kinds of lymphoma. Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma is the cancer that starts in the lymphatic system. Over 50,000 new cases are brought up every year in the US.
Researchers studied dietary intakes for around 35,000 women aged 55-69. During the time period, 415 people were diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Dietary Vitamin C intake was connected to a 22% reduction in lymphoma risk, while alpha-carotene, proanthocyanidins, and manganese were linked with 29, 30, and 38% reductions in risk. Eating more fruits and vegetables had a 31 % reduction in risk, while yellow/orange and cruciferous vegetables were associated with 28 and 18 % decrease.
