I don't have any questions, I just wanted to thank you for bringing life back to me.

I was so sick and now I am feeling as good as I did twenty years ago! It has been a long battle: no energy, aches and pains going from one Dr. to the next. They told me it was anything from arthritis to depression; they had me on steroids for three years... All behind me now!

Why Are You Addicted To Junk Food?

A study of rats has found that addiction to junk foods can be quite real. When the rats were given unlimited access to candy, bacon, cake, and other junk foods, they quickly gained lots of weight. As they grew more obese, they kept on compulsively eating even though researchers sent an electric shock down their foot when they consumed those foods. Another group of rats were fed a healthy, well-balanced diet with very little junk food. These rats did not gain much weight and could stop themselves from eating when they were warned with the electric shock to the foot.

Something even more amazing was that the obese rats refused to eat the healthier food placed before them when it was switched with the junk food. They went on a voluntary hunger strike for 2 weeks and did not touch the healthy food. This connects to human by saying that there is a possibility that dieting on junk food and processed foods might change the brain's reward system for satiety. When that part of the brain goes haywire, the result is for people to gain weight and feel more obligated to eat junk food.

The researchers found that the dopamine D2 receptor sites decreased when they ate junk food. This can be compared to addiction to cocaine and heroin. When the receptor was artificially suppressed in the healthy rats, they started eating junk food compulsively. This relates to human beings as in when one becomes obese, the D2 receptors also decrease, which then leads to becoming a compulsive eater. The only way to stop this compulsiveness and return to normal is to go on a long diet to lose weight and stop consumption of junk food.
