I don't have any questions, I just wanted to thank you for bringing life back to me.

I was so sick and now I am feeling as good as I did twenty years ago! It has been a long battle: no energy, aches and pains going from one Dr. to the next. They told me it was anything from arthritis to depression; they had me on steroids for three years... All behind me now!

I just don't know how to thank you. I think it would be wonderful if you could just be everywhere with your caring heart. Information and the real reason behind all of the bad, sick days that so many of us have had.

Sincerely, Jessica...@telusplanet.net

Bok Choy Cherry Salad
Walnuts are high in monounsaturated and omega-3 fatty acids that have been shown to lower LDL cholesterol. There are many researches that show that incorporating walnuts in a healthy diet reduces the risk of heart disease by improving blood vessel elasticity and plaque accumulation.

FAQ
Q: What are the consequences of over-exercising?

A: Over-exercise can lead to insomnia, depression, and a feeling of constant fatigue. It can also lead to over oxidization of cells from excessive free radical release. While your heart may be in excellent shape from the exercise, too many free radicals can lead to cellular mutations, which may ultimately result in cancer.

From Our Readers

Dr. Lam, I am an osteopathic physician who is going into a practice that specializes in functional medicine and antiaging (with regards to natural hormone replacement). I have been devouring the information on your website! It's great! I am looking for a source of therapeutic blood values. It seems that even though Quest or other labs have what they feel are normal ranges, this is not necessarily the case with this type of medicine. Thanks!

Quote of the Week
Sickness comes on horseback but departs on foot. ~Dutch Proverb, sometimes attributed to William C. Hazlitt

When we were young, we could shake off a cold in a few days. As we age, flu tends to stay around longer. Why? During the aging process, our defense mechanism is less robust and our engine gets older each day that passes. However, the good news is that the body can be rejuvenated if given the right nutrients.  As a nutritionally oriented physician, I have seen many who have benefited from my nutritional program.

I want you to have a strong body, so that battling illness is a cinch. Fortifying yourself with optimum doses of anti-aging supplements is an excellent start.

That's A Good Question!
Question: I heard that plant products are beneficial for anti-aging. I would like to eat more foods from plant sources. Can you recommend what I should take?

Answer: An abundance of food comes from plant sources, including fruits and vegetables, potatoes, breads and grains, beans, nuts and seeds. Any of these foods would make good dieting choices. From an anti-aging perspective, you cannot go wrong with foods from plant sources.

That's A Good Question!
Question: As I am sure you are aware, there are a lot of very popular diets around at the moment that promote burning fat as a fuel source as opposed to glucose. I understand that the aims in your web pages advice control of blood sugar, especially if glucose tolerance or sugar addictions are an issue. I would very much appreciate your opinion, concerning this type of diet as an "alternative cure" for blood sugar problems and whether or not you recommend it.

Answer: Burning fat as a fuel source is always better than burning glucose. Most of us through the years have trained our body to burn glucose, and thus the body could break down with diabetes, and lipid abnormalities, just to name a few. Sugar addiction takes 2-3 years to overcome for most, and I encourage sugar balancing to help in this respect. Aside from controlling sugar balance, changing the body's fuel source from sugar to fat should be the ultimate goal, provided that the body of the person is metabolically typed to accept fat as the source. Many people, especially those of Type B blood and relaxed personality (type B personality), do well on complex carbohydrates as primary source of fuel and will do poorly on fat. This is in contrast to Blood Type O and Blood Type A personalities who do well on high good fat (monounsaturated fat such as olive oil) for non-high heat use, and coconut oil (saturated fat) for high heat use.
