FAQ
Q: Who should not be on hormone replacement therapy?
A: Hormones are not indicated for those who currently have breast, endometrial, or ovarian cancer. They should also be avoided by those who have liver disease, thrombophlebitis, or thromboembolism (conditions associated with blood clots) and should be considered carefully for those who have suffered strokes or transients ischemic attacks (TIA).

Quote of the Week
Just because you're not sick doesn't mean you're healthy. ~Author Unknown
There is a giant difference between being healthy and being normal. A 50 year should be able to walk a mile in 15 minutes. That is normal. Some at that age are able to run a mile in less than 8 minutes. Now that is optimum. Regardless of your age, your body can be optimized. Here is an article that will show you how to maintain youthfulness at any age: The Baby Boomer's Anti Aging Program.

That's A Good Question!
Question: I have Thyroid problem and someone told me that eating cruciferous veggies would slow down the thyroids production of hormones. Is this true? I have always liked veggies. I have been dieting and it is very slow going. Would eating cruciferous veggies affect my speed of losing weight?
Answer: Goitrogens are naturally-occurring substances that can interfere with the function of the thyroid gland. If the thyroid gland is having difficulty making thyroid hormones, it may enlarge as a way of trying to compensate for this inadequate hormone production. "Goitrogens," like circumstances that cause goiter, cause difficulty for the thyroid in making its hormone. When your thyroid function is slow, then your metabolism will go down, therefore affecting your weight loss.
Cruciferous vegetables include:
Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Kale, Kohlrabi, Mustard, Rutabaga, Turnips, Millet, Peaches, Peanuts, Radishes, Soybean and soy products, including tofu, Spinach, and Strawberries

That's A Good Question!
Question:
I fell about 2 feet and landed on a hard object. My butt is now black and blue and I can't have any pressure on it. What can I do? It has been about 2 weeks since it happened. It is right by my tailbone.
Answer: Normally, any muscular strain or bruise will take anywhere from 2-6 weeks to heal. You need to make sure that there is nothing else, since it has been two weeks. Make sure that there is no pain that goes to your feet, as that may mean nerve involvement. Also make sure there are no urinary tract disturbances as that may mean some internal damage.
Since you mentioned the tail bone, I also want to alert you that tail bone can be easily injured. The only way to really know whether there is injury is by x-ray and digital rectal exam. The pain is quite localized, very specific at one spot and is very pressure sensitive.
At this time, applied heat to the spot helps the healing process.
Pain is a signal from the body that tells us if something is wrong. It is one of the few ways the body knows how to communicate with us. Taking pain medication can dull this communications channel and cause more damage unknowingly. Pay attention to your body and see a doctor as needed for your ultimate benefit.
Take any pain meds with caution.
If things don't improve soon, say a week or so, you need to see a doc and get an examination. Right now the presentation is muscular trauma, but other things can be affected.
