From My Kitchen
Vanilla and Pears
Pears are higher in pectin than apples, so they are effective in helping to lower cholesterol and in toning the intestines. They are also hypoallergenic, less likely to produce adverse response than other fruits. If you have cough, you may want to try the Asian pears.

FAQ
Q: What is stress?

A: The stress response is a chemical reaction. Heart rate, blood sugar, blood pressure, and breathing rate all rise during stress to get your body ready for action. Additionally, cholesterol and triglycerides increase; fluid is retained; and platelet clumping and free radicals are increased.

From Our Readers
Hello Dr. Lam:
I found your information extremely useful. I am usually very critical, but your free lecture was extremely futuristic and advanced. I agree with your views, and the new outlook on CVS disease.

Quote of the Week
Just because you're not sick doesn't mean you're healthy. ~Author Unknown

There is a giant difference between being healthy and being normal. A 50 year should be able to walk a mile in 15 minutes. That is normal. Some at that age are able to run a mile in less than 8 minutes. Now that is optimum. Regardless of your age, your body can be optimized. I want you to work towards that. Taking the right and optimum amount of supplement is the best way to get started.

That's A Good Question!
Question: Does heavy exercise (say 8 Kilometers fast walk daily) helps reducing Lp (a)? My Lp (a) reading is 59. My mother & father do not have this problem. How can I link it to genetics? I do not consume alcohol, tobacco, non vegetarian food, oily / fatty food, etc. Still why is my Lp (a) is high?

Answer: Lp (a) is a genetically linked risk factor that is not related to exercise in and of itself. It has nothing to do with your lifestyle. You can have perfect lifestyle and have a high Lp (a).
