I don't have any questions, I just wanted to thank you for bringing life back to me.

I was so sick and now I am feeling as good as I did twenty years ago! It has been a long battle: no energy, aches and pains going from one Dr. to the next. They told me it was anything from arthritis to depression; they had me on steroids for three years... All behind me now!

I just don't know how to thank you. I think it would be wonderful if you could just be everywhere with your caring heart. Information and the real reason behind all of the bad, sick days that so many of us have had.

Sincerely, Jessica...@telusplanet.net

FAQ
Q: What is stress?

A: The stress response is a chemical reaction. Heart rate, blood sugar, blood pressure, and breathing rate all rise during stress to get your body ready for action. Additionally, cholesterol and triglycerides increase; fluid is retained; and platelet clumping and free radicals are increased.

From Our Readers
Hello Dr. Lam:
Dr. Lam - I have been taking your adrenal stat pack for 30 days now and do feel better. Here are the details: I have been taking the 1 tsp of salt every morning in some V8 juice. This made a big difference for me. For months, perhaps almost a year, I had to go to the bathroom frequently and thought I was getting incontinence, but within a few days of consuming the salt, I am back to normal. Thank you. Also, I did change my eating habits. Instead of eating cereal for breakfast, I am having bacon and eggs in the morning. My stamina is much better throughout the rest of the day. I am continuing to rest in the afternoon, during my kid's naptime. While I was sleeping everyday before, now I have energy to do work (paperwork) while resting. There are times when I feel low in energy, especially before a meal, or after a stressful event. But being more aware of what is going on, helps in and of itself. Thank you.

The most important thing in illness is never to lose heart. ~Nikolai Lenin

Repeated studies have shown that a positive mental attitude is a key determinant in healing. Those who have determined to overcome illness do lot better than those who lack the fighting spirit.

That's A Good Question!
Question: What is the difference between an anti-aging diet and a weight reduction diet?

Answer: The anti-aging diet is not a "diet" in the sense that its objective is weight loss. Anti-aging diet is actually a lifestyle of dietary habits that will improve your longevity. It is therefore not a weight reduction diet per se, although it has weight reducing effects.

That's A Good Question!
Question: Does heavy exercise (say 8 Kilometers fast walk daily) helps reducing Lp (a)? Would you please answer a question for me concerning carbohydrates and the information on labels? I am trying to eliminate as much sugar from my diet as I can, but I'm confused as to what number I should be concerned with. Just as an example, on the side of a can of corn it reads: 19 grams total carbohydrate, dietary fiber 2 grams and sugars 5 grams. If I were counting carbs for the day, would I count 19 grams or 5 grams? I read that a diabetic must count the total amount, but if I am not a diabetic, does that still apply to me when trying to lower sugar intake? Another thing that confuses me, if the fiber is 2 grams and the sugar is 5, how do you account for the other 12 grams? And yes, I know corn is not the best vegetable to be eating when it comes to restricting carbohydrates.

Answer: Most people are confused on carbohydrates. There are good carbohydrates (complex carbo) and bad carbohydrates (simple carbo). The sugar that you mentioned are therefore of 2 types. The simple refined carbohydrate that we know as table sugar. This occurs in many canned foods (such as corn in your case), dessert, candies, soft drinks, etc. This type of sugar definitely should be avoided. The 2nd type of carbo comes in the form of starches; they can be simple or complex. Simple starches occur in refined white flour, corn flour, etc. The complex starches are found in wheat flour, oats, rice, fruits, and vegetables. When you try to avoid carbohydrates, it is best to stay away from all grains and their products, fruits (don't eat more than 2 serving a days, avoid banana, watermelon and cantaloupe), roots vegetables (potatoes, carrots, beets). All vegetables are complex carbohydrates. The reason for avoiding carbohydrates is to stabilize your blood sugar. Please refer to the following web page on the subject of glycemic index as a guideline to which food raise your blood sugar faster.
