Pizza

Pizza is one of man's favorite food, especially among the children.

Health scientists today are listing out the dangers of this favorite food that many people may not be pleased to know. Do you know that just a plain unadorned cheese pizza packs about a half a day's worth of saturated fats in a typical quarter-pie serving? "Move beyond plain old cheese pizza and the news just gets worse," says the nonprofit Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI). Are you aware that: -

•Just one slice of a delicious Domino's Hand Tossed Pepperoni pizza is the equivalent of a McDonald's Egg McMuffin.

• Just one slice of the irresistible Pizza Hut's Stuffed Crust Meat Lover's pizza packs the wallop of a McDonald's Quarter Pounder.

• Just one slice of the mouth watering Pizza Hut's Big New Yorker Sausage pizza does more damage than a McDonald's Big Mac.

The true fact is that while most people would not take a second helping of a Quarter Pounder or Big Mac, they will reach for a second, third, or even a fourth slice of their favorite pizza without second thoughts. The rich and delicious toppings of cheese and meat on pizzas are the main culprit for the American's clogged arteries and bulging waistlines.

Health experts say that two greasy slices of Pizza Hut's Stuffed Crust Pepperoni Lover's pizza contain more than 800 calories and about one day's worth of saturated fats and sodium. Double this amount and will have reached your two-day's quota of saturated fats.

During an investigation of the major pizza chains, it was found that only three types of pizzas qualified for the "Best Bite" ratings. They are Pizza Hut's Hand Tossed Veggie Lover's, Papa John's Original Crust Garden Special, and Domino's Hand Tossed Cheese with half the cheese-a pizza which isn't even on Domino's menu. A quarter of a large pie of these three pizzas contain only about a quarter of a day's worth of saturated fat and only about 500 calories. So, do try out these pizzas instead for a healthier choice.

It may also be the wisest choice to order a pizza with less cheese the next time you have your cravings.

Here are some practical guidelines:

Order a "half-the-cheese" pizza. Pizzas with vegetable toppings are the lowest in calories and the richest in nutrients. Chicken and ham are the next best. Also, pepperoni is a healthier choice over sausages, pork, and beef.

Stay away from the newly invented "Stuffed Crust". These are crusts that have been injected with cheese.

Avoid multi-meat combos meals like Meatsa (Little Caesars), All the Meats (Papa John's) and Meatzza (Domino's).

You should also order plenty of the green salads and stay clear of the typical side orders such as bread sticks, Buffalo chicken wings and cheesy bread.
