Are you familiar with the term ASMR (Autonomous sensory meridian response)? There is a lot of scientific controversy over the topic, but it is described as a neologism for a perceptual phenomenon characterized as a distinct, pleasurable tingling sensation in the head, scalp, back, or peripheral regions of the body in response to visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, and/or cognitive stimuli. I actually experience it myself but there is no scientific evidence as, of now, to how it occurs or why. Have you heard of it?
ASMR and other sensory type reported experiences are likely part of a bigger group of conditions or presentation that is involved with the body?s electrical conduction and or meridian system from a physiological basis. There may be a concurrent psychological basis as well, involving selected neurotransmitters and hormones originating within the brain and eventually working its way through to the rest of the body. Being able to truly understand the physiology is perhaps decades away.
