Due to the thyroid and adrenals being closely related and sharing many symptoms, in what situation would you factor this in, in terms of treatment for adrenal fatigue?

Q: Hi Dr Lam, Due to the thyroid and adrenals being closely related and sharing many symptoms, in what situation would you factor this in, in terms of treatment for adrenal fatigue? Would this change the protocol much? Or does recovery from adrenal fatigue generally improve the thyroid with it?
Many thanks

A: Thyroid conditions should be considered in every adrenal case. The key is to know when to tackle the thyroid and when the adrenal and that is based on a case by case basis. The key is timing. If thyroid function is secondary to adrenal control, then helping the adrenal first will better the thyroid function. This is generally, but not always, the case. Sometimes it is necessary to give the thyroid a boost if the adrenal is not recovering well. So there are lots of exceptions.
