Important Liver Enhancing Foods To Help You

Liver Enhancing Foods can help your adrenal fatigue by enhancing the detoxification processTo enhance the liver function of the body, the first step is to initiate a process of detoxification. Following detoxification, one must adhere to a strict diet that provides specific nutrients – particular vitamins and minerals – known to enhance liver function, with these liver enhancing foods.

The following is a list of vitamins, minerals, and other liver-enhancing agents readily available through specially-targeted foods, or liver enhancing foods. (Bear in mind that the body’s ability to tolerate these foods is highly dependent on the stage of Adrenal Fatigue Syndrome (AFS). Typically, the more advanced the condition, the less the body is able to tolerate these foods – even though they may be beneficial to the system. (If you are an AFS sufferer, always consult your healthcare practitioner before embarking on liver enhancing foods, this diet, or similar diets.)

Liver Enhancing Foods

B12

In that 60 percent of all the B12 in the liver (30 percent of all B12 in the body) is in the mitochondria of the liver cells, it is easy to understand why low B12 can result in liver damage. Readily obtained from meat (poultry is ideal), cooked fish (especially sockeye salmon, haddock, rainbow trout, and white tuna) and whole egg, the only drawback with B12 and adrenal fatigue syndrome is that this vitamin tends to be quite stimulating for some individuals. Over time, sufferers may become dependent on an ever increasing amount in order to stay energized, resulting in a state of “wired or tired.” Like any chemical dependency, reduction of B12 can be very problematic due to the unpleasant withdrawal symptoms that can trigger adrenaline crashes.

Betaine

Betaine, a neutral chemical compound found in chlorine-rich foods like eggs, cod, beef liver, toasted wheat germ, brussels sprouts, broccoli, salmon, shrimp, and beef helps prevent the accumulation of fat in the liver, while eliminating waste – and thus helpful in enhancing liver function. (Heath experts advise to avoid cruciferous vegetables like broccoli if you suffer from advanced adrenal fatigue syndrome [AFS] or ovarian-adrenal-thyroid [OAT] axis imbalance.)

Folic Acid

Lack of folic acid has been linked to liver degeneration due to a hampered ability to mobilize the essential amino acid methionin, which the liver requires for normal metabolism and fat lipid oxidation. Fortunately, many foods are naturally rich in folic acid including egg yolk, soy, liver and kidney (organ meats), split peas, almonds, lentils, sweet potato, dried beans, asparagus, beetroot, oranges, bananas, and peaches. It is advised, however, that adrenal fatigue syndrome sufferers limit intake of bananas and oranges, and if you have ovarian-adrenal-thyroid axis imbalance (commonly seen in advanced stages of AFS), avoid soy as well.

Methylating Agents

To aid in the detoxification process, experts recommend the consumption of generous quantities of methylating agents – inositol, choline, niacinamide, the three B-complex vitamins (folate, B12 and B6), the amino acids methionine, cysteine, and taurine, as well as the less potent pangamic acid and dimethyl glycine – which are found primarily in animal meat products. (Note that processed foods, ready to cook, and vegetarian foods do not offer methylating agents.) While some of these nutrients are available in capsule or tablet form, the best option is to consume methylating agent-rich foods rather than rely on pill form as they are less easily absorbed into the system – and in some cases, less tolerated.

Selenium

Selenium, in its correct form, is essential to the glutathione synthesis and breakdown of certain toxic compounds typically found in the liver. Sardines, blue corn, organic yellow corn, anchovies, and herring are the common correct sources that should be added to the liver-enhancing diet.

Sulfur: Protein-Bound and Non- Protein-Bound Vegetables

Cooked cruciferous vegetables like cauliflower, cabbage, water cress, bok choy, broccoli, kale, and similar green leaf vegetables offer generous quantities of non-protein-bound sulfur – as do red radishes, turnips, daikon root, garlic, and onion. However, women with advanced adrenal fatigue syndrome should avoid broccoli and cauliflower because most female AFS sufferers have some degree of estrogen dominance, meaning a chemical imbalance of the ovaries and thyroid.

Protein-bound sulfur is also essential, which is readily available in egg yolks and meat. And while one or two soft boiled eggs each day can provide sufficient protein-bound sulfur, individuals with more advanced AFS are generally less egg tolerant (particularly when the yolk is well cooked). Those in this category can opt for a poached or raw egg (though it’s essential to verify freshness when eating raw egg).
