Why Take a Nutritional “Anti Aging Cocktail”?

By: Michael Lam, MD, MPH

How an anti aging cocktail adds years to your lifeNutritional supplementation is an important component of proper anti aging protocol. Many commercial supplement products, however, are sorely lacking in one way or another, either missing some important nutrients or imparting poor bioavailability that limits the benefits of the nutrients that are contained within. Taking a specially concocted anti aging cocktail composed of high quality supplements packs a more potent punch that you can be sure will enhance nutritional uptake in your body. So how exactly does a anti aging cocktail benefit you?

Here are the Reasons:

First, different nutrients work at different parts of the cell. Vitamin C, for example, is water soluble and protects us from free radical attacks outside the cell. Vitamin E, on the other hand, is fat soluble. It is able to penetrate the cell wall easily and combat oxidative damage intracellularly.

Second, different nutrients complement each other in their duty. Numerous studies have shown that taking multiple nutrients in the optimal dosage is better than taking single vitamins. There is no one single major bullet in nutritional supplement. It is wise to obtain as broad a coverage as possible.

Third, different nutrients have different target organs. Saw palmetto focuses on the prostate gland, while milk thistle focuses on the liver. Gingko has blood thinning properties, and Vitamin E improves circulation to the brain.

Fourth, by combining the synergistic effect of multiple nutrients, the dosage of any single nutrient is decreased. It has been shown , for example, that the oxidative effect of combination of vitamin C, A, and E is much higher than when any single one of these vitamins are used.

What does the Nutritional Anti Aging Cocktail do for your body?

80% of us are going to die of cancer, stroke, or heart diseases. Any effective anti-aging cocktail must address the three issues. In addition, the nutritional cocktail must fortify our immunity  and modulate our hormones to deter the aging process.

Let us look at each issue specifically:

Cardiovascular Protection Our daily supplements must help to maintain the elasticity of the vascular system and help prevent cardiovascular complications. The following are key nutrients: Ascorbyl Palmitate, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, L-Proline, and L-Lysine.

Cancer Prevention – Our daily supplements must contain antioxidants to help reverse the damages of environmental free radicals that can cause cancer. The following nutrients in optimal doses are required: Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Selenium, Grape seed Extract, Citrus Bioflavinoids.

Immunity Enhancers – Our daily supplement must help us to defend ourselves against germs, bacteria, environmental pollutants, and external insults. Key nutrients in this area include: Vitamin C, L-Glutamine, Garlic, and Selenium.

The brain, joints and entire body systems benefit from an anti aging cocktailEnergy Boosters – Our daily supplements must to provide natural sources of sustained energy throughout the day. The following are key ingredients: Vitamin B12, L-Glutamine, Inositol, Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine), and Vanadium

Skin Rejuvenation – Our daily supplements must help to maintain the collagen of the skin and make the skin look and feel tighter and smoother. Important nutrients responsible for this include: Ascorbyl Palmitate, Vitamin C, Calcium, Magnesium, digestive enzymes, and L-Glutamine.

Hormonal Enhancers – Our daily supplements must help maintain and balance the hormonal system. The following are key nutrients: L-Glutamine, L-Proline , and L-Lysine, Evening Primrose Oil, and Vitamin E.

Digestive Health – Our daily supplements must help to enhance the digestion and absorption of nutrients from food. The following are key nutrients: Amylase, Lipase, Cellulase, Bromelain, Lactase, and Digestive enzymes.

Weight Management and Sugar Control – Our daily supplement must help balance our sugar level and prevent spikes that can lead to Diabetes. The most important nutrient in this category by far is : Chromium, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Digestive Enzymes.

It is becoming more apparent that stress and our general health are more interrelated than previously thought. Researchers and scientists have been studying stress and its effect on our bodies for many years.

Anti Aging Cocktail and the NeuroEndoMetabolic Stress Response

The organization of biological complex has been made in way, that there are a number of moving parts that work together in order to keep it in a state of balance or homeostasis. A holistic approach known as the NeuroEndoMetabolic (NEM) stress response, can be seen as an intricate network consisting of both bodily systems and specific organs, to configure a fall back for when our survival is threatened by stress. Systems of organs such as the central and autonomic nervous system and specific organs such as the heart, pancreas, liver and thyroid. The NEM’s stress response network can be compartmentalized into six key responses; inflammatory, cardionomic, neuro-affective, detoxification, metabolic and hormonal.

All the issues stated previously of digestive health, weight management, cardiovascular protection and immunity enhancers can assist not only in their specific roles, but also in ensuring that the NEM’s functioning is not overburdened.

If the body’s ability to deal with stress is encumbered, a whole host of other conditions can negatively affect the body, further perpetuating any existing issues. These symptoms can occur as innocently as feeling unrefreshed in the morning or of increasing concern as musculoskeletal pain. All this can come about through our body’s inability to cope with excessive amounts of stress. In this increasingly modern world, stress has become part and parcel in our lives. Understanding the NEM’s functional medical model in its response to stressful influences and the pathophysiology working behind the scenes, can help sufferers better recover.

Therefore, it is essential that the body has consumption of a wide ranging variety of nutrients in the right amounts, to provide the body its best chance of maintaining optimal health and keeping stress and harmful conditions at bay. A carefully formulated anti aging cocktail of synergistically acting vitamins and minerals is a potent

Two observations: hormone enhancers; do those suggestions only apply to women who make enough estrogen and progesterone to enhance? Secondly, if digestive enzymes serve to breakdown protein (amino acids) fats, carbs and fiber and stomach acid addresses microbes and proteins then is it still necessary to add SKIN rejuvenation supports with both ascorbyl-palmitate, vitamin c, calcium, magnesium, digestive enzymes and L-glutamine? Interesting but is it overlapping?
