There is a lot to be said about the benefits of walking. We are all aware that walking is great for our health and wellbeing and there is an abundance of research and studies that demonstrate the benefits of walking daily. You can potentially walk your adrenal fatigue away. Even just a short period of 30 minutes a day can do wonders for our health, reducing the incidence of conditions such as Alzheimer’s by half and lowering the probability of being diagnosed with diabetes by as much as 60 percent. Research has even shown a 31 percent reduction in colon cancer for women and at the same time reducing the risk of debilitating heart conditions, dementia, depression or even the common cold.
Walk your adrenal fatigue away, provide benefits to the health of the biological systems and mind. It is easy to do, not to mention free, relaxing and available nearly everywhere. Even with these facts in mind, less than half of adults are actually meeting the daily requirements for walking or any physical activity, being 30 minutes a day for 5 days a week. We find this dilemma in our high schools, with only a quarter of students reaching their daily requirements. Could this be due to our ever increasing digital world, where we are glued to our laptops, tablets, and smartphones, and everything we want is only a click of a button away?
Walking as Medicine
The message needs to be sent clearly across the country, to encourage daily walking and to get Americans moving again. At the forefront of spreading this message across the nation are health professionals, who are in the best position to provide the education and advice for the daily requirements, for physical activity, to achieve optimal health. There are even some health professionals using walking as a medicinal prescription.
If you were to view walking with a different outlook, a wonder drug that prevented you from getting diabetes, protected you against depression, strengthened your skeletal structure and stopped fractures from occurring, everybody would be asking their doctor to prescribe this wonder drug for them immediately. It is important to walk your adrenal fatigue away and can’t be stressed enough when treating other conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and depression.
Walking for health was designated as a vital sign in 2009 by Kaiser Permanente facilities located in California. Upon examination, health professionals will take a history of the patient, asking them how often they partake in physical activity during a normal week and at what level of engagement. This will generally bring about conversations concerning the value and importance of walking in the prevention and treatment of health conditions. Following up on the introduction of the new vital sign, a study found that a large majority of patients had kept a record of their physical activity levels noted in medical records.
Including, walking as a vital sign, part of a patient’s medical record providing the clinician with the ability to determine what is most important to their patients, as well as further prompt patients to ponder about healthy habits beneficial to the longevity of their lives. It can be provided as a great reminder when used as a vital sign.
Having walking as a vital sign, allows the discussion of physical activity to take place in the clinic’s room, even if it is just a brief conversation. The importance to our overall health cannot be stressed enough. Walking plays a vital role in controlling obesity and cholesterol levels, which have deep impacts on our overall health. In some people’s minds, walking isn’t considered exercise and is not strenuous enough, so they believe its benefits are limited. Discussing how to walk your adrenal fatigue away, with patients, can serve as great encouragement to take up the activity.
Walking for Health and Adrenal Fatigue
Adrenal fatigue can be viewed as a culmination of several signs and symptoms that can have negative implications on our health. Most commonly felt is a sense of general malaise that can be associated with fatigue or a lack of energy. It can present with other symptoms such as allergies, experiencing colds and flus regularly, anxiety, depression, insomnia, difficulties in focusing, and tiredness. In general, the onset of adrenal fatigue is usually insidious and a slow progression. It is important to relieve yourself of the stressful influences in your life. Stress and adrenal fatigue are interrelated and our biological complex has a defensive mechanism to handle it. It is known as the NeuroEndoMetabolic (NEM) stress response, an intricate web of systems and organs that was built in our bodies to deal with stress that threatens our survival.
The NEM stress response is a functional medicinal perspective on how the body responds to stress and the mechanisms of actions to position the body in a state of equilibrium and balance. There are primarily two major compartments to the NEM system, being the neuroendocrine and metabolic compartments. The neuroendocrine consists of the adrenals, autonomic nervous system, gastrointestinal tract, heart, thyroid, and the brain. These organs and systems are asked for assistance in response to aggravating factors such as stress. The metabolic circuits include the pancreas, extracellular matrix, microbiome, liver, and immune system. They are also activated along with the neuroendocrine system.
This complex web consisting of both the neuroendocrine and metabolic circuits culminate in the body’s response to stressful influences. Regular activation of the NEM’s stress response is automatic and a process that occurs 24/7 involuntarily. When we begin to experience stress that is encumbering, or too abundant for the body to handle, it can cause the pathways within the NEM stress response to malfunction. Largely, the response from the NEM varies from individual to individual and brings about different response levels. Therefore, everybody will respond to stress differently. Some individuals have a high tolerance and even sometimes flourish in stressful lives. Whereas others will fall and falter at the slightest verbal or emotional insult.
One of the six core responses as part of the NEM’s complex is the hormonal response, which is regulated by the adrenals, gonads, thyroids, and ovaries/testes. Disruption of this response from overloaded stress can bring about symptoms that are akin to adrenal fatigue, such as; lethargy and reduced libido. The hormonal response is but one of the six responses which are; the metabolic response, the neuroaffective response, the cardionomic response, the inflammatory response, and the detoxification response.
The process of stress works by initially activating our hormonal response, with the adrenal glands releasing an anti-stress hormone known as cortisol. Adrenal fatigue can be experienced by the rise and fall of cortisol levels in our body in response to stress along with other anti-stress hormones. The body’s response to stress can be categorised in four stages. Fatigue can become more debilitating and prominent as you progress through the stages when stress keeps piling up. During stages 3 and 4, more advanced symptoms will begin to present in the body, typically metabolic ones. Some common symptoms include having low blood pressure and fatigue, anxiety, heart palpitations, and sensitivities to supplement/medications. These symptoms, that are advanced in nature, can have a great impact on the quality of life. Unfortunately, a conventional medical check-up won’t present with pathological clues. However, the body is in disarray as a result of the deregulation of the body’s response to stress.
Take Your Time and Walk your Adrenal Fatigue Away
In the world we live in today, stress can be found in every nook and cranny of our lives, repeatedly beating us down as we work towards deadlines and try to balance work and family. The NEM’s stress response is our body’s natural ability to protect itself from copious amounts of stress. It is essential that we regulate our levels of stress, and try to eradicate factors in our lives that contribute to the accumulation of stress. This is why it is beneficial to walk your adrenal fatigue away.
Walk your adrenal fatigue away, it can do many favors for your stress levels and mediate your stress response. When partaking in walking or any physical activity, the body releases a chemical known as endorphins. Endorphins are like a natural high that provides a general feeling of positivity that interacts with receptors in the brain providing a relaxing effect. So, in many ways, the therapeutic benefit of walking cannot be underestimated, as you can literally walk your adrenal fatigue away. In advanced stages of adrenal fatigue, however, the body may not be able to handle the energy expenditure and physical stress involved in walking. This may make things worse. In these settings, it is best to start off slowly and increase over time. Only a few minutes a day may be tolerated. Excessive walking can trigger adrenal crashes. Always listen to your body and do not walk more than your comfort zone. Stay well hydrated and under the shade as much as possible. Most advanced AFS sufferers cannot tolerate direct sunlight and usually have heat and temperature fluctuation intolerances. If you are too weak to walk, try starting with adrenal restorative exercises. This may be a better alternative to prepare your body.
