Start with eliminating all grain products from your evening meal. This includes wheat, rye, barley, potato, bread, and rice. You may find it difficult in the beginning and experience cravings. As usual, no desserts after dinner, and reduce snacks before bedtime. All refined carbohydrates such as cookies, ice cream, and chips should be avoided. Follow the above, and you will be surprised how quickly the triglycerides come down. As the triglycerides normalize, the total cholesterol will reduce automatically, and the total cholesterol to HDL cholesterol ratio will automatically improve.

    I read Niacin can reduce cholesterol, but also that it can cause damage to your system. Do you recommend it, and if so can one take the non flushing kind? I have very high cholesterol, high LDL, and moderate HDL; but within range triglycerides if on the high side. This is what I have read also, do you think it is true? : Many people have experienced the annoying, sometimes downright painful sensation of niacin flush at least once during their life, and probably didn’t even know what it was.       Lipid is part of overall cardiovascular risk evaluation. Lowering cholestenone by way of niacin is one of many possible routes to take. The total consideration needs to take in many factors including past history, clinical setting, etc. Without a comprehensive view, simply taking niacin may not be proper to start even though it may lower cholesterol in some people.

    Is it possible for people to have a naturally high triglyceride level even if they are eating a healthy diet? In cases like these, what is the best way to keep the triglycerides within the normal range?

      High triglyceride can be familial, in which case you will need medications. The key to reducing tryglyceride is to avoid any simple carbs. that will solve the problem most of the time. Avoid potato, rice, etc. That should be your first step.
