Signs and Symptoms: Healing Adrenal Fatigue to Soothe Dry Skin

There are several reasons why you may have dry, itchy skin. Antihistamines are very drying and if you take them with any regularity, they may be one cause for your dry skin.

Dry Skin and Adrenal Fatigue

If your skin is extremely dry and the cause is not attributable to such causes as thyroid malfunction, psoriasis, low humidity, or the like, you may be suffering from adrenal fatigue. Dry skin can be seen to accompany adrenal fatigue for a couple reasons. Firstly, the adrenals produce aldosterone, a hormone that is responsible for balancing hydration and keeping water in your body. If your adrenals are weak, then aldosterone levels will decrease and you will subsequently become more dehydrated, which can lead to drier skin. Another possibility is a decrease in thyroid function as the adrenals fatigue. While the adrenals are separate organs from the thyroid, they are both connected to each other and help to regulate your metabolism. If the adrenals are weak, then the thyroid can also weaken. This may lead to dry skin once again.

Causes of Adrenal Fatigue

Adrenal Fatigue occurs when the adrenal glands fail to function adequately. This can occur as a consequence of a respiratory infection, extreme stress, hormonal imbalance, and so forth. There are no definitive signs of adrenal fatigue; rather, it is a collection of symptoms including extreme fatigue and dry skin. Adrenal glands can begin to fail at any age, but it occurs more commonly in adults.

Resulting in a catch-22 situation, the more we stress our bodies by trying to achieve perfection, the more our bodies resist our efforts, which results in more stress and less perfection.

The fast-paced lifestyle, that we live, does not provide time for adequate sleep or relaxation. In addition, the poor diet that is a result of a hurried and stressful lifestyle wreaks havoc on the Neuroendometabolic (NEM) stress response system. The NEM stress response is our body’s method of handling stress. The adrenals are part of this system. When the adrenals become so used to generating cortisol in the body to help deal with stress, they wear out over time. Cortisol is our body’s main anti-stress hormone, and plays a big part in the NEM stress response. As cortisol levels start to drop due to adrenal fatigue, deregulation of the NEM stress response may result and symptoms such as dry skin may start to pop up.

Healing Adrenal Fatigue

Fortunately, healing adrenal fatigue takes less time than developing it does. It will require a commitment to diet and lifestyle changes. If these are adhered to then healing adrenal fatigue can be a one-time occurrence rather than a repetitious one.

When embarking on your regimen of healing adrenal fatigue, be sure to place sleep first on your list of priorities. Your body heals much more quickly during sleep than it does when you’re awake. Therefore, you need to provide an adequate amount of time each night, in a comfortable bed in a pleasant room, to let your body begin to rejuvenate.

Comprehensive strategies including diet designed for healing adrenal fatigue can help your dry skin among other symptoms.When you awaken, rather than rush for the coffee pot, prepare and eat a high-protein breakfast, within a half-hour of rising. Plan to eliminate processed wheat and sugar. Forego the caffeine and diet drinks, and eat organic fruits and vegetables. Don’t go too long without eating and avoid becoming overly hungry.

As tempting as it may be to exercise vigorously, try to avoid it. Walking, yoga, and meditation are great but it’s important to not become overly tired while you are healing adrenal fatigue in your body. If you need to add supplements, such as vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, and so forth, then do so, but try to obtain your nutrients from your food as much as possible.

Meditate as much as possible in order to get your body and spirit back in alignment. When healing adrenal fatigue, keep in mind that your energy channels have become misaligned and you need to realign them. Healing adrenal fatigue takes time and patience but it can be done. Remember, take care of your adrenals so that they function well for you in the future.

I just want to thank you so much! This is the first article I have actually read that has 100% accurately described my situation! I have been left in a state of Adrenal Fatigue for so many years that I had every single symptom. My family doctor had no idea, put me on anti depressants and all kinds of other poison. My hair was falling out and I ballooned up a hundred pounds and was sleeping 22 hours a day! I went to a Naturopath in my area who recognize that I had Adrenal Fatigue, but I never really put together all of the dry mouth, extreme urine output until now.

    My daughter has most of the symptoms of stage 3 adrenal fatique. It has gotten worse over the past 8 years.
    Her lethergy is great and can only be out and about for 2-3 hours a day. Can not drive due to nervous system problems and anxiety. If she is to exercise a little, it is followed by extreme lethergy and weakness.
    She also has gastroparesis. She has skin has breakouts all over her body and she does not look well. Is there a doctor who treats like you in Northern Virginia or Washington, DC. Thank you

    Over the past month my good friend has had bouts of sickness, it seemed to be a virus but he has recovered after 3 days, however, he has developed severe flaking skin on his face and yesterday has started the sickness again
    He has to take drugs for high blood pressure one is Ramipril and some drugs for his undrractive thyroid. He plays some golf
    However, he is always tired and wants to sleep, although he has not been a good sleeper for a long time, his wife tries to urge him to become more active, she has more energy (I want to bottle it ); but he prefers to sit and watch TV
    Is this signs of adrenal fatigue?
